I love teaching! Whether it is beginners or more advanced students, the wonder and amazement that shows on their faces when they have created something really special, makes it all worthwhile.

I have cut back on travelling, and now usually only teach locally. My main place of teaching is D & S Sewing Machines at Newton Abbot, and my diary for the coming year is as follows -

During the week (in blocks of 10 weeks at a time) I hold two or three hourly classes, for beginners and the more advanced in both patchwork and quilting and embroidery - these are

All day Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday

Saturday workshops are as follows -

24th September -Trawler at Sea

A small applique piece with gentle colours to remind you of the seaside.  The applique is sewn by machine, and there is some hand quilting to finish it off.

1st October - Rose of Sharon Heart Cushion

This is a traditional Baltimore pattern with a contemporary twist.  The flowers are appliqued by machine and pretty quilting finishes off the cushion.

22nd October - Free Machining

A beginners' day for your introduction to free maching.  This liberates your quilting techniques and the day is spent setting up your machine and then trying out the patterns that I have devised.

12th November - Christmas Robins

This is a charming small quilt for Christmas showing jolly robins with Christmas baubles in their beaks.  The applique and quilting is sewn by machine.

26th November - Christmas Gifts

There is a choice of making a bowl with lid, and/or Thai inspired little wrapped caskets.  The former is made from wrapped clothesline machined in a coiled shape, and the latter is made from fabric stiffened with vylene, and could be used to house some soap, small piece of jewellery, etc. or just given as a gift for itself.

14th January - Washing by the Sea

Create this small picture, using a selection of fabrics including hessian.  It is a charming picture of washing blowing in the wind by the sea, mostly machined but with some hand embroidery to enhance.

28th January - Rabbit Cushion

This is a cushion for everyone, for yourself, a friend or a small child.  The background is sewn with squares, with a rabbit superimposed on top,  made of fleece to give that tactile feel.

11th February - Bluebells in the Wood

This picture is free machined with strips of fabric to give the impression of bluebells with the trees bonded on top to give that look of seeing through the wood.

25th February - Small Landscape

Here you have the choice of morning or evening colours, with simple lines and finished by mounting on to a canvas board.

11th March - A Trio of Seaside Pictures

This is back by popular demand, and if you came last year come again and sew another picture.  These are small and are mounted on to canvas boards.

25th March - Free Machining

This is a repeat of the workshop of 22nd October, 2016.

22nd April - Flower Bag

This is a variation of one of the button bags, but this time it has flowers embroidered along one band by making Suffolk puffs.  A pretty bag in pastel shades ready for the summer, or you could choose darker or stronger colours.

13th May - Cushion using the technique of Italian Quilting

This cushion has a heart type design, and uses Italian wool to raise the  channels, and can be either machine or hand sewn.

20th My - Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt

This quilt looks complicated, but each block is sewn with just nine 5" squares and is very easy.  It would be to your advantage to cut out your squares before you come, instructions given before you come.

The pictures for these are on my Workshop Gallery page.

The challenge for this year is a quilt designed by you of your favourite building.  The pieces are all worked independently and then assembled together at the end.
