About me

I live in the lovely county of Devon and have been making quilts and embroidery for several years. When my children were grown up I completed by City and Guilds, Parts 1 and 2 (now level 3 Certificate and Diploma) at Urchfont College, fulfilling an ambition to do something creative for myself. This led on to my teachers training certificate and since then I have taught widely throughout Britain, especially in the south west.

Studying for City and Guilds, I chose ballet for research, which led to a series of work based on the wonderful colours, textures and design to be found in the theatre.

This was featured in the Practical Encyclopaedia of Sewing by Dorothy Wood, and was awarded 3rd prize at the National Patchwork Championships at Ascot

My next series of work was based on the flora and fauna of Clennon Valley, with its wide selection of wild flowers, trees, butterflies, animals, and birds including a pair of mute swans who hatch a new family each year.

My latest work is totally different, and I have been using the flower fairies as inspiration. I try to dye all my own fabrics, using hot water dyes, procion dyes or transfer dyes depending on the fabric to be dyed. This gives a softness of colour and subtlety of shading that is reminiscent of water colours.

I have exhibited widely and had several local solo exhibitions, and sold my work widely including throughout England, Europe and also further afield to USA and Japan. I have also accepted commissions and take these .

I hope you enjoy viewing the textiles in the two Galleries.  If you are interested in purchasing any of these pieces please feel free to contact me - prices on application.  - email janeatroundham@yahoo.co.uk

I belong to the Quilters’ Guild, Embroiderers’ Guild, West Country Embroiderers, and my local textile group Thread Vision. The last giving me the greatest pleasure as it includes the nicest people, all who I have taught at sometime.
